A perennial, usually grown as an annual in our zone. This plant is so versatile! The flowers are harvested before opening becoming a tasty treat. Allow the flowers to open and get a stunning purple flower that is beautiful and desired treat for the pollinators. Although artichoke requires 6 to 12 hours of sunlight, in South Alabama shade in the hottest part of the day is beneficial. Seedlings require a chill period of nights below 45 degrees however above freezing to flower. If this does not happen, the plant will not flower. See link below for more growing information.
